Undergraduate 3rd/4th Year

These are undergraduate, Casual positions based in our Newcastle Office. This role requires the applicant to have a strong understanding of the principles of civil/structural engineering. The primary role of the Undergraduate Engineer will be to assist the Senior Engineers in preparing civil, structural, and geotechnical documentation for projects such as new residential/commercial developments, renovations/additions, swimming pool and retaining wall projects which will involve you to take and understand instructions, work under minimal supervision, present calculations and documentation in a clear and concise manner and discuss technical assumptions and decisions. The role will require working from the office as well as fieldwork on an occasional basis for investigations and inspections.

We seek an individual with:

  • Interest in structural engineering.
  • High level of academic achievement at University.
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills, including communicating with clients.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills.
  • Show initiative.
  • Take and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Present calculations and documentation in a clear and concise manner.
  • Pride in their work.
  • Attention to detail is essential.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Understanding of current Australian Standards and the Building Code of Australia.
  • Driver’s license.

 

Casual employment is intended to be offered to accommodate candidates throughout their 3rd and/or final years of undergraduate study.

Most who complete this program take up full-time employment with 5QS as a graduate professional engineers.
